This course will cover how to leverage oral microbiome testing for root-cause insights into oral and systemic conditions, and how to use them to improve patients’ overall wellness. We will review how to interpret test results, which patients to test, and protocols for improving the balance of beneficial bacteria. We will then discuss how to explain the benefits of oral microbiome testing to patients and best practices for implementation in the office. Participants will leave the course with an understanding of how the results of these tests may affect the treatment plan for your patients. -
Kalee Eich, RDH, HIAOMT, is a premier speaker and top biological dental hygienist practicing in one of the leading biological dental offices in the United States. This course will bridge the gap between oral health and systemic physiology, reframing periodontal disease as a manifestation of broader metabolic, inflammatory, airway, sleep, and lifestyle-driven processes. Together, we will explore how oral dysbiosis, airway dysfunction, sleep disruption, skeletal muscle health, inflammation, and glycemic control intersect to influence periodontal stability and whole-body health. Special emphasis will be placed on translating these connections into clinical practice through objective data, including aMMP-8 testing to identify active collagen breakdown and disease activity. Learning Outcomes:- Identify key oral-systemic connections, including metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, and microbial imbalance in periodontal disease progression.
- Explain how airway health, sleep quality, and skeletal muscle function influence oral inflammation, glycemic control, and healing capacity.
- Apply salivary diagnostics, including aMMP-8 testing, to assess active disease and enhance clinical decision-making.

Inflammation and infection are two key components to accelerated aging disease and ultimately death. It is becoming more apparent that these pathogenic conditions within the oral cavity and systemically are directly or indirectly related. Systemic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s/dementia and various cancers have an oral pathogens and inflammation component. Recent understanding of light and sound technologies reveal that they can allow us to see inflammation and infection. This presentation will discuss using the Velscope to cause autofluorescence of inflammation and infection. A brief discussion will be on using ultrasound (Point of care) to screen for cardiovascular disease and thyroid problems. These technologies in the hands of dental professionals, should allow our patients to have information about their health That usually goes undetected until disease is significantly advanced. -
Sandra Arill, RDH and Herbalist shares the wonderful healing power of plants. She will review recommendations on how to select herbs to enhance oral care, and a practical approach to herbal intervention for home care use. We all have patients that would benefit from and want a more natural approach.
